The complete tenant onboarding checklist for owners

A smooth move-in sets the tone for the whole tenancy. Skipping paperwork to 'save time' almost always costs you later. This checklist keeps every new tenant properly documented from day one.
Before move-in
- Collect a government ID proof (Aadhaar / passport / driving licence).
- Note an emergency contact number.
- Agree rent, deposit, notice period and house rules in writing.
- Record meter readings and the room's condition with photos.
On move-in day
- Hand over keys and note how many sets were given.
- Walk the tenant through common areas, timings and rules.
- Confirm the first rent date and payment method.
Five minutes of documentation at move-in saves hours of disputes at move-out.
Keep it all in one place
Scattered documents in WhatsApp and paper files get lost. Keeping each tenant's ID, agreement and payment history together means you can pull up anything in seconds — and hand over cleanly whenever they leave.
